Occupy London Members Refuse To Allow Beloved North London Library To Close

by Bryan Thomas Schmidt

For library lovers, perhaps a news story from England brings encouragement. A North London library beloved by its community closed its doors following a series of recent budget cuts. But eight resourceful members of Occupy London refused to allow it. They crawled through an open window and reopened it, proclaiming themselves “caretakers” and “community librarians.” According to a BBC News article, the “squatters have been sleeping on the main floor of the library at night and running a book-lending service by day.”

Not recommended as a course of action. There are harsh legal realities which will come into play. But certainly inspiring for its passion.
