Is Kickstarter the Future of Fiction and Book Publishing?
Tobias Buckell may be able to answer that question.
The science fiction – fantasy writer is now running a Kickstarter campaign for a new short story collection – Mitigated Futures. Buckell’s initial goal for funding the project was $1,000 and that was easily met. And, he’s already met his first stretch goals for the project. As a result, he’ll be writing introductions to each of the stories in the collection, and he’ll be writing a brand new short story.
How much money will Buckell generate for the project? Who knows. You’ll have to keep your eye on the project and see where he ends.
Buckell’s not the only writer who has used Kickstarter recently. Other Kickstarter book projects have included:
Matt Forbeck’s intense quest to write 12 novels in 2012.
Richard Monson-Haefel’s Steampunk Holmes – just as it sounds, a steampunk Sherlock Holmes novel.
Scott Heim’s First Time I Heard series of eBooks featuring a multitude of musicians and artists writing about the first time they heard influential bands such as The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, David Bowie, Kate Bush, and Joy Division/New Order.
