Reading Rainbow iPad App Revives the Much-Loved Television Series and Encourages Your Children to Read
This new iPad app recreates the popular television series Reading Rainbow which ran for nearly twenty years. Like the show, this app is hosted by Levar Burton of Star Trek fame. The rainbow is designed for an age range from three to nine years old. It contains a wonderfully rich entertaining, yet educating world which you and your family can be introduced to for free. At no cost your child will be able to select one book to journey through. The heart of the program, however, is a subsription-based service which will cost your family five dollars per month. If this price is in your budget, you will probably find that the rewards to you and your kids will be well worth it.
Reading Rainbow will initially host a library of one hundred-fifty books, with plans for frequent expansions. Its library will contain works of both fiction and nonfiction. The books will be tucked away, along thematic lines, on islands in a dream world that your child discovers through exploration. Also, the rainbow will initially contain sixteen field trips which take the child on a learning journey, with more trips to come as time goes on.
In the rainbow, your child will not have to simply read a book, though they will have that option. Instead each book will be like a wonderland of cartoon animations and sound effects, packed along with learning activities. If your child chooses a read along option, then one of several celebrities will interactively narrate the story. Additionally, if you ever can not be present to read along with your children, Reading Rainbow will have a dashboard just for you, so that you can check on their progress at any time.
