Raygun Chronicles: Space Opera for a New Age is our first-ever crowdfunded project, an ambitious anthology of space opera stories from some of the finest voices in science fiction writing today: 23 contemporary stories capturing the classic golden age feel of space opera past.
Teaming with experienced editor, Bryan Thomas Schmidt, on board for the project and running the Kickstarter Campaign, they have secured commitments from some amazing pro-level authors (including Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Dean Wesley Smith, A.C. Crispin, Mike Resnick, Seanan McGuire, Allen Steele, Brenda Cooper, Robin Wayne Bailey and Sarah A. Hoyt) to bring their talents to the anthology, to be blended with a representative selection of stories from the six-year run of Ray Gun Revival magazine.
“Illustrator Paul Pederson has already done concept sketches so good we could almost use any of them for the cover as-is (see the beautiful greyscale image above),” says Camille Gooderham-Campbell, EDP partner. “We’re planning three editions of Raygun Chronicles — a clothbound hardcover gift edition with glossy full-colour dustjacket for book lovers and collectors, a trade paperback edition with glossy full-colour perfectbound cover for those who prefer something more economical and lighter in hand, and of course an e-book edition for e-readers and mobile devices.”
Other than the book itself, rewards include space opera bookmarks, a limited-edition t-shirt, and a selection of editing and publishing services. Also, everyone who supports this venture with even a single dollar will get a mention in the list of supporters (which will be included in all editions of the book), and also a set of downloadable web badges to show our appreciation.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me to revisit the types of stories that drew me to science fiction as a young reader, a kind they don’t write much these days, and introduce them to new generations,” Editor Schmidt said. “It’s a chance for EDF to take things to the next level and help some great writers they’ve been working with reach a larger audience alongside some of their own writing heroes. It was a no brainer for me to get involved. And I can’t wait to get this rolling! But we really need you!”
